Recent Biking

May 27, 2016 - 9:17pm   Cycling

2016 biking is going pretty well so far. I attribute this to a few things:

1. I rode a trainer inside over the winter, using Zwift (which I plan to write a separate post about, sometime soon)

2. I rode my fat bike during the winter some, so I wasn't off the bike completely from October-March like most years.

AIDS Ride for Life

April 26, 2016 - 1:16pm   Cycling

This week I signed up to ride in the AIDS Ride for Life 100 mile bike ride around Cayuga Lake in September. It is a charity ride to benefit the Southern Tier AIDS Program. This will be my 4th year doing it.

Indoor Soccer

April 19, 2016 - 10:43pm   S'more Thoughts

This winter, I learned how to play soccer!

Colorado!

March 23, 2016 - 11:10pm   S'more Thoughts

At the end of February I took my first trip to Colorado - it was great!

The were a few reasons for taking this trip: I had never been to CO, we have a few friends that have recently moved there, and Nick wanted to see the Red Wings play in the outdoor hockey game in Denver.

Blue Apron Experience

February 6, 2016 - 3:40pm   Food

The past few weeks Nick and I have been experimenting with Blue Apron. If you aren’t familiar with Blue Apron, it’s a meal service kind of thing. You get a box delivered to your house once a week with a couple of recipes and the ingredients for each recipe.

Biking up Whiteface

February 5, 2016 - 4:49pm   Cycling

Last summer I rode my bike up Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks. It was a pretty important milestone for me, so even though it happened over 6 months ago, I’m still going to write about it.

Menstrual Cups

February 4, 2016 - 10:12pm   Women

This post is about periods and period-related products. Some people feel funny talking about this kind of stuff, which is silly, because it’s something all females go through...but, for various social and cultural reasons, people don’t talk about it much.

Sore Seat

February 1, 2016 - 8:37pm   Cycling

When people are just getting into cycling, they often complain about how uncomfortable sitting on a bike for an extended amount of time is. There are a bunch of things you can do to make cycling more comfortable.

My Favorite Banana Bread

January 31, 2016 - 2:25pm   Food

I saw this recipe in a newsletter from USA Triathlon. It’s from Laurel Wassner at Athlete Food. I’ve made it a bunch of times - it’s my go-to recipe for using up brown bananas or extra carrots. It’s really tasty!

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

Fat Bike

January 30, 2016 - 12:08pm   Cycling

I had my first Fat Bike experience at the Shindagin Shindig Demo Days back in August 2015. Shindagin Shindig a super fun event at a local forest/mountain bike hotspot. Bike dealers bring a bunch of brand new (mostly mountain) bikes for people to try out for free! You basically fill out a form, give them some ID, and then take a bike out on the trails for 30-60 minutes.
