A Mexican Wedding

July 15, 2017 - 2:14pm

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, Nick's friend Alan married his girlfriend Cordelia in Monterrey, Mexico July 1 and we were invited. They both live in Monterrey so this was not a "destination wedding" in Mexico.

Trip to Monterrey Mexico

July 11, 2017 - 9:27pm

Last week Nick and I went to Monterrey, Mexico for a wedding. When Nick was in college there were several students from Monterrey that went to Nick's college for a semester and Nick kept in touch with a few of them. One of these exchange students, Alan, was the one getting married. We met up with him and his now-wife, Cordelia, a few years ago in Chicago.

Race Report: Gorges Ithaca Half Marathon

June 17, 2017 - 8:49pm   Running

Up until a few weeks ago, I wasn't planning on running this race. I thought there was a bike race in Watkins Glen that I wanted to do today, but found out from my friend a few weeks ago that it was canceled for this year. I hadn't put much thought into this half marathon since I was planning on the bike race, but since the day was now free, I decided to sign up.

Race Report: Hamburg Road Race

June 10, 2017 - 8:26pm   Cycling

Today I did the Hamburg Road Race (near Buafflo, NY) with two women, Carrie and Marina, that I bike with on Wednesdays. Hamburg is near Buafflo so it was quite a drive for 1 day.

Race Report: Skunk Cabbage Half Marathon

April 9, 2017 - 9:14pm   Running

Today I ran my first half marathon!

I have never been a big fan of running. It always felt really hard, I felt slow, and I'd get really hot. The past few years I've just been running enough to make it through sprint and olympic distance triathlons, so I never ran more than 6 miles at once.

Race Report: Freeze Out 5K

March 11, 2017 - 9:16am   Running

A few weeks ago on Feb 24 I did my first night time run - the Freeze Out 5k to End Homelessness. The race is at a park very close to my mom's house. She told me about it in early February and I figured it would be a fun event to do.

Women's March

January 22, 2017 - 5:22pm   Women

Yesterday, as millions of people across the country marched in various cities in support of women's rights and equality, I marched in my own little city. This was my first time participating in any type of political rally or march. I didn't know what to expect. Here are my thoughts about it.

Going Green

January 7, 2017 - 6:49pm   DIY, S'more Thoughts

For the past few years I've been making a conscious effort to try to be more "green" -- produce less waste, use less energy, reduce my carbon footprint. I try to use reusable products as often as possible, and recycle/reuse things like plastics and fabrics. Here's a list of changes I've made over the past few years.

Race Report: Drops to Hops

AIDS Ride for Life 2016

September 11, 2016 - 1:29pm   Cycling

Yesterday was my 4th year participating in the AIDS Ride for Life. It's a bike ride fundraiser for the Southern Tier AIDS program. I did the 100 mile course, around Cayuga Lake. It's not a race -- just a fun bike ride to raise money for STAP. It's very well organized and lots of people participate. There were 300 volunteers and the riders raised over $200,000.
